I saw this man perform once, at Randall's Island a few years ago. What I remember about him was that he was an incredibly entertaining musician and he completely blew my socks off when he threw down a freestyle rap with finesse that would rival that of Nas or Jay-Z any day of the week. His performance really stood out to me that day as one of the most privileged moments out of all of my musical experiences. Now, even more so, I feel so grateful that I got to see this legend perform live and in person before he left this earth for the next beautiful place that the universe has in store for people like him. Go on Bo Diddley. Go on go on.
**One of my myspace friends posted this video in a bulletin. The man did not mess around on that guitar. He got right to the heart, yes indeed. This is a great thing to see:

Shit, I ain't even b'lieve in no god...
But, just in case there is One, I'll say the words. Why? Because, I'm gonna tell ya how its gonna be:
You know who was inspired by those words? Buncha Yank & Limey guitar player "bluesman" wannabee dudes: John Mayall, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Winwood, George Thorogood, Bruce Springsteen, Iggy Pop, etc, etc, etc. Not to mention Elvis & Buddy Holly & the Beatles and yer mamma, probly. Cuz Sheriff Diddley was one original. And he freakin' INVENTED Rock'N'Roll. (Not all by himself, y'unnerstan'.)
Not that there wasn't other dudes out there in some bar in Memphis or Chicago or Boogaloosa or N'awlins that could play even better than the cigar-box man. Cuz there was. And it's our loss we never heard 'em.
But the thing is, these dudes with their funky old guitars, well, they made us who we are. If you call yourself an American, then you got a lot of black in you. I mean, otherwise, you'd be Canadian or some shit, right? So, to be American is to be black, or part black. Like that ol' Obama dude, y'know? So, the message is, WHO DO YA LOVE???!!!
Oh, and vote.
