No Words to Convey

I refrained from making a 9/11 post yesterday, as the worldwide web was facing no shortage of tributes and kind words on the fourth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center. But it doesn't feel right not to mention it at all, especially as someone who witnessed the event firsthand.

Sandy put up a beautiful post that totally made me cry.

It is hard to describe the sadness that comes over this city on this day. I will never, ever forget the first anniversary after those attacks. I had to take the train across the Manhattan bridge where the skyline is visible and those buildings are gone, gone, gone. It was too much to bear. People were openly crying on the train. Breaking down in front of fellow passengers who would cry too, at the sight of someone else's tears. I was glad this year it fell on a Sunday.

Regardless of politics or beliefs regarding the cause of that catastrophe and the actions that have followed, it will forever stand as one of the most traumatic events I personally have ever experienced and I will never be able to look back on it without feeling an overwhelming sense of distress. As always, my heart goes out to those who were lost, and those who have been left behind to grieve.

Whether you're looking at the New York skyline itself in living color, or at photographs of this terrible event as it happened, it's okay to cry. In fact, I think it's healthy to shed tears in honor of those who died and everything that was lost.

I read Sandy's tribute. That's a pretty scary site she has going there! Pity is she and her followers appear to have the same reverence for what is unquestionably a far greater human catastrophe:

Hurricane KATRINA

All these 'types' can do is go on and on about "never forget" 9/11. Well I, for one, will "never forget" how our presiding government failed its own when we needed them most.

By comparison (and I MEAN by comparison) the on- going tragedy of Katrina and its aftermath has taken a much greater toll. And this time we can only blame ourselves... no imagined threats from countries we continue to take to task.

It's high time we took care of our own.

Those repugnant republicans would like to brush Katrina under the carpet. Yet still they defend Bush. Unbelievable.

correction to previous post:

If you have come here to air a grievance with Sandy, this is the wrong place to do it. Despite our differences when it comes to politics, she is one of my favorite bloggers and I respect her immensely.

No I came here to post. After all you linked that blog. Last I knew this one was open to the visiting public.

Would that you showed your visitor the same respect you show other blog owners I'd be less inclined to think you ill-mannered.

I stand by my statement. That blog you linked looks like "right wing central". You can have that feigned memorial she posted. I don't buy it or the sentiment behind it. If you'd be inclined to allow me my opinion I'd be grateful.

'nuff said.

Point taken. But I think you should know that I've been reading Sandy's blog for years and she's always been more than fair to those who disagree with her and she is not one of these people who is unwilling to admit great faults in the government and our leaders. I admire that in her considering it's refreshing coming from a republican. Also, her husband is a democrat who would sooner fall over and croak before he'd vote for Bush. I can't speak for her readers though, as I agree that many of them are mindless conservatives who don't know their asses from a hole in the ground.

I apologize if you found my last comment ill-mannered, but standing up for my friends is a natural reflex.

Geez I DUNNO Sandy HAVE YA?? Well Goooolllly!

I maintain you deserve with your wishy-washy ethics and fair-weather political leanings the respect of those who frequent your blog:

Rednecks, bigots, hate-mongers, robots, and feebleminded sheep. Maria can choose to overlook anything she likes. I call them as I see them and you're one hateful ol' gal.

At least Maria's woman enough to allow commentary without banning IPs because one differs with the "Pee Snatch" opinion. I'll give the girl that much.

You, on the other hand, deserve the respect of the flu virus.

You and I know what you're truly made of:

1 part animal fat
99 parts alcohol

Take the pledge babe... you have a child to raise.
