We Are The Bad Guys

I haven't been able to bring myself to write about anything real that's going on in the world. Fantasy is so much easier to bear.

From the appointment of that douchebag to the U.N. to Bush's fabulous new energy legislation that gives billions in tax cuts and subsidies to already filthy rich companies like Exxon while doing nothing to actually solve the oil crisis or in any way benefit the environment, it is all too painful. From the 102 miners facing certain death in China to other Chinese facing certain torture and death by their own government. From war in Iraq, not to mention the rest of the middle east, to the suppression of photos of Abu Ghraib, to the detainments at Guantanamo Bay. From the poor and sick and uneducated in our own country to the poor, sick and uneducated all over the earth. It's all so vast. How can you really get a handle on the meaning of it or the solution to it? All I can say about world news right now is that it makes me very reluctant to the idea of ever reproducing and subjecting someone else to the guilt that goes with knowing that the world is completely fucked up and there's only so much you can do about it.

About those photographs. I think it's incredible that our "leaders," in order to keep them under wraps, are using the excuse that the photos will inflame anti-American sentiment in the middle east. Yet, for some reason, it has never bothered those same "leaders" to inflame anti-Arab sentiment and demonize them all for the actions of a few, or to send our soldiers off to kill Arabs and die themselves. It doesn't make sense. The truth is the truth, is it not? Why are we being deprived of the whole truth about Abu Ghraib (not to mention all the other detainment camps that we're not being told about), regardless of the effect it might have? Those who are truly responsible are not going to be held accountable, most definitely as long as those photographs remain hidden by those responsible. How painfully ironic... We are not any better than those we condemn. The bad deeds of our government run in a vicious cycle.

And what do the republicans have to say about all this? Who gives a shit? *Achoo*!assholes*...I've given up having hope for them. They're totally going to hell.

Maria,
I felt exactly like that just a few days ago. I've been doing some studying on what happened in Rwanda, what's currently going on in Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Colombia, and a bunch of other depressing war torn countries. I was/am so mad at the world and the fact that nobody seems to give a shit about anything.
Then I heard this speech today by a man named Jeffrey who was born in Africa and joined a rebel group when he was 12. He fought with the rebels in Zimbabwe for independence. He then decided that being a rebel was not the route he wanted to take in life, so he went to school. He now works for the Carter Center and negotiates with rebel groups in Africa for peace and to establish cease fires. He has saved hundreds of thousands of lives and relayed the greatest stories about his experiences.
I don't really know why I'm telling you this story, I think it's because I felt the exact same way as you and then I heard this mans stories and how optomistic he is about the world and he really showed me that even though we can't save the world, people are saving lives every day, we just don't always hear about it. I hope you maybe feel a little better about the sorry state of this royally fucked up world. Just wanted to let you know that there are more people doing good things than I ever thought was possible.

I picked the morning paper off the floor
It was full of other people's little wars
Wouldn't they like their peace
Don't we get bored?
And we call for the three great stimulants
Of the exhausted ones
Artifice brutality and innocence
Artifice and innocence

Maria,
I just found you on the most bangable blog babes list and, I must admit, you are gorgeous! I would have chosen you as #1. I don't know how to link in the comment, so I'm putting the site down as my link, though the site is not my own.

Marie,

Well said. You and I agree that reading fantasy is easier to bear. I'm certain it is why myth and legends were created. Not only to encapsulate moral tales or examine a belief system or to hide from authorities the meanings, but also to provide a exscape from the idiocy of reality. If ever we needed that it is now. Hum, did we just discover why Harry Potter is so popular?

The solution? Keep things local, which does not mean isolated. Be self sufficient as possible, market your bounty and don't allow your market to be sold to without a good cut for the local infrastructure. Don't thieve from others the things they stand on. Be a good steward of the earth, if you use it, replace it or repair it. Find the least offensive solutions first. Respect all beings.

And NEVER put your trust in other than yourself.

Oh, on that. I've got a good shirt for everyone. www.cafepress.com/whitehousecrazy.

Hay Maria I know more then you can imagine about the entire Bush Federation. Lets just say they are much like the Siafu, they grow, swarm and kill on any type of movement. This scares the hell out of me like it should everyone, but not that I am trying to scare anyone, but we need to be wary of their ways specially in the up coming future. Their trying to control the Gas Prices and Literation into Iraq is just the start.
