Oil Over Environment

Yep, Bush is taking care of our environment all right. Systematically destroying and abusing it in order to ruthlessly exploit it. Don't worry, Bush will take care of it. Bush will make sure that there's an earth left for our children and grandchildren to live on. Bush will make sure there is clean water to drink and un-polluted air to breath. As long as those priorities don't get in the way of the interests of his corporate assistance program.

Now, I've heard republicans spouting off before about how Bush has a commendable environmental record. I challenge anyone to prove that this man cares one iota for the environment or that he would place environmental safety and preservation concerns over the concerns of his oil and energy interests.

He sure does have everything straightened out.

Update 8/27/04: An article in BBC said this today:

On the environment, Mr Bush appeared unfamiliar with an administration report delivered to Congress this week which suggested that carbon dioxide emissions were the only likely explanation for global warming over the last 30 years, said the newspaper.

Mr Bush in the past has said there are uncertainties in understanding the causes of global warming.

Asked why the administration had changed its mind on the causes of global warming, Mr Bush replied: "Ah, we did? I don't think so."

I'm sorry....WHAT? Does the President of the United States have a clue what is going on in his own administration? Sounds like a classic case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Another shameful quote to add to the W hall of fame.

From the BBC "On the environment, Mr Bush appeared unfamiliar with an administration report delivered to Congress this week which suggested that carbon dioxide emissions were the only likely explanation for global warming over the last 30 years, said the newspaper."

As opposed to Kerry, who declined a briefing on that pesky TERRORIST 'thing' so he could attend a fund raiser? Well, then. Boo! Double boo! Down with Bush! He obviously hates trees and nature. Why, this proves he hates air! His purchase of a ranch in the country that he works himself is just a clever way to throw people off the scent of his TRUE wish to KILL THE PLANET!

And about Bush not knowing about something? Explain why I should interpret a question from a reporter as gospel? Who says the reporter knows what he's talking about? Or that he got accurate information? Gee, when's the last time your company decided to change its benefits packet? What? No change? Irrelevant. Since some stranger asked you about it, it must be so!

Growing up in Philly (yes, I grew up *IN* the city as opposed to these people who claim to be from Philly but really grew up in Maple Shade, NJ or somewhere in Bucks County) there were many different "segregated" neighboorhoods. North Philly of course had the scummy nasty vagrents and there were neighborhoods in NE Philly, some in south philly that were some of the last of the large bastions of clean and safe inner city neighborhoods in Philly. But, with the vagrant population ever growing and the amount of the "decent" folk leaving for the suburs ever growing, it took work to keep these neighboorhoods clean and safe. But, the selfish society we were becoming, whenever the alarm was sounded to start neighborhood watches and push city council to increase police street patrols, the response many would give "As long as my own sandbox is ok I don;t care what goes on outside of it." Well, those sandboxes stayed nice for a while, but while everything fell to shit around it, it started closing in. Of course, people continues to keeo their sandboxes nice and tidy, completely ignroing the problenms going on around them "as long as their snadboxes were fine" eventually, things started closing in. EVentually, everything turned to shit and I would say there are virtually no neighborhoods left inside of the city limits worth a shit to live in.
Bush may care deeply about his precious range back in texas, but he could give a shit less about everything around it. Just because he molly coddles his own land, doesn't mean he is a proponent of high environmental standards. Eventually, if we keep going down the road we are on and allowing the geovernment to chip away at these standards, much as the Bush Administartion has done over the past 4 years, there won't BE any nice land left to appreciate. All for what - to save our corporations money.

It is also not about Bush "not knowing something" but about his ignorance on manny levels and issues he should be aware about. I am ok with someone saying "I don't know" about a subject, but I hope they can follow it up with "but, let me find out and I will get back to you." For Bush to stand there and flounder like a fish out of water and sond like a complete moron, it is painful to watc but also us look like fools to the international community.
