You Pushed That Button

Anybody mind if I bitch for a moment about this comment that appeared in my last entry this morning? Too fucking bad.

"I would have thought it would be a basic courtesy for you to let me know you had moved your blog from Blog On. I'll go ahead and delete your account shall I?

Posted by Shelagh at May 12, 2004 08:32 AM "

Now this is the woman that hosted my old weblog at blogon.com. Remember when I was desperate to find out what was wrong with my deteriorating blog? She never responded to my messages regarding the problems that I was having, and when Geoffrey finally fixed the whole mess, he informed me that there was something wrong with the CGI script in her main blog and that it really couldn't be fixed from my "sub blog." So, it was a blessing in disguise because I moved to my own domain and I am much happier now.

And today she has the nerve to come and leave this message in my blog comments? Common courtesy? She wants to talk about common courtesy? What about all the emails I sent her that she didn't respond to??? What is common courtesy again? Well since she decided to broadcast her snooty remark/"request" in my comments section, rather than emailing me like normal people do, I am broadcasting my response: common courtesy is returning emails. There is a little link on her page that says "Contact." I clicked that little link and it took me to this page, wherein I attempted to reach her by typing little words into the little box and clicking send (or "contact blogon!" as it were); something to the effect of "HELP! I'm DROWNING!"

Naturally, having not received any response to these pathetic cries for rescue, I assumed one of two things: (1) she doesn't really care/doesn't really have time to deal with my silly technical difficulties or (2) she doesn't check her messages. No matter. Geoffrey-the-arch-nemesis came along just in time and saved me with his knowhow. (I am assuming this was one of those action movie strategies on his part, where someone like Dr. Evil won't kill Austin Powers because he has way too much fun chasing him around. If Dr. Evil killed Austin Powers then he would have no purpose in life, i.e., no one to torment).

I wish I could now show a little clip of Gilbert Godffrey grabbing the sides of his head and shouting in that fantastically nasal voice of his "SHELAGH! What the fuck???" (It's my what the fuck moment of May 2004)

What a slut she is. Fuck her.

Thanks for your intelligent input Richard. What does your (wrong) assumption about my sexual values have to do with the comment I left? Are you reverting to type and thinking, in the loosest sense of the word, with your dick?

Maria, I have already told you that I never received any e-mails from you. I also have explained that you had a full and complete hosting account and that you had your own installation of MT on it. If MT was fucked up on your account you did on your own. The contact form works fine and I have received messages from other people via the form with no problem at all. I also check my e-mail very regularly and I do reply to e-mails as I get them, contrary to your assumptions (there's a lot of those around here aren't there?). I also explained that there is no "main blog" and that Geoffrey's making it up as he goes along.

Along the way at Blog On I've met a lot of "gimme, gimme" people, it's disappointing to find out that you turned out to be one too. Having provided you with a free, fully featured hosting account for over a year and installed MT for you would you please explain what you think I owe you? The only requirement there has ever been at Blog On is that you update fairly regularly and that you let me know if you no longer require the space.

By the way, the reason I didn't e-mail you was that the only address I have for you is the one that came with the hosting account I gave you (the FREE one, remember?) and I deleted that.

Posted by: Shelagh at May 12, 2004 06:33 PM

I never used that email account (the FREE one) and you have emailed me before at bybeautydamned@hotmail.com. Also if you click on my name in any post on this site it takes you to my email address.

As for what you owe me. Nothing. But certainly not that rude, presumptive comment you left this morning. I appreciated the free hosting and the fact that you set up my blog and I expressed that to you in the beginning. I updated frequently. I tried to contact you politely when I started experiencing problems. I got no response. It so damn strange that I didn't give you a final notification when I moved considering I'd never received a response in the past.

Anyways, I was done discussing this with you when our email exchanged finished earlier today. I needed to vent about what happened. I never indicated to you in any way that I was ungreatful for your starting me out. I was only ungreatful for the lack of response to my emails, the crappy comment you left on my blog this morning and the pissy attitude.

I think we could probably just chalk it up to a gigantic misunderstanding. Too bad it had to get yucky.

"I also explained that there is no "main blog" and that Geoffrey's making it up as he goes along."

That is not true. You were hosting me. I was basically a little clingon to your server and domain. To some extent, there were aspects of that setup that I obviously did not have access to. According to Geoffrey, somewhere within that setup, there was an issue with the cgi script (I don't even know what the fuck that IS! Hahaa!) which needed to be fixed from there. Whether or not this is true, I don't know, because I am a professed retard on the subject. I only know enough about MT to get by.

Along the way at Blog On I've met a lot of "gimme, gimme" people, it's disappointing to find out that you turned out to be one too.

When have I ever been "gimme, gimme?" Please tell me. Oh when I asked you for help and didn't get a response? I understand that there are probably other reasons that explain why you did not get those emails. But I sent them as a last resort when I was desperate to figure out what was wrong with the blog. And they were friendly and pleading emails. Not "gimme, gimme." It's disappointing that you would make such a mischaracterization. But then again, you didn't get them. I just don't see where you have the nerve to be mad at me about anything. That's all.

It was a subdomain with what appeared to be a blog sharing the cgi with another blog.

Argue about whether or not it was rude to leave without telling you, I could care less. Several points remain:

The blog was fucked for quite awhile.
Maria emailed you to ask for assistance.
I emailed you to ask for access to the source.

You didn't respond, so I helped Maria move. What's the big deal?
