Holy Mary Mother of God.
Don't ever say us Mexican women aren't the toughest. SHIIIIIT.
Posted by Maria at April 7, 2004 01:12 PMMan..I'm hurtin all over just thinking about this. Talk about a high tolerance for pain..tough momma!
Posted by: sandy at April 7, 2004 05:10 PMYa know, I had an emergency C-section, after 18 hours of labor. That story makes me ashamed of all that whining I did...
Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at April 7, 2004 05:32 PM18 hrs? holy shit...well most mothers hate me when they hear how easy my labor was...I didn't even know I was in labor until the nurse told me to start pushing..I swear I coughed hard and my daughter popped out...
Posted by: sandy at April 7, 2004 05:37 PMBitch!
Just kidding. You were one lucky chick. I was induced, my labor stalled twice not the pain, just the progress. I was going natural so I had no drugs, nothing. After the 18th hour, O.B. tells me that the kid isn't even engaged because my pelvis was too small for him. Needed to get him all 10.5 lbs of him out.
Little piece of free advice. Always have your man or someone you trust trim your bush before you go to the hospital. Some nurses don't seem to care that a dry shave, on your crotch area, isn't comfortable. :-)
Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at April 7, 2004 06:50 PMSandy, you give me hope that I may actually be able to endure childbirth. Rosemary, you have put the fear of god into me. All my siblings and I were huge babies. I have a feeling that might come back to haunt me when I have kids...
Thankfully, the likelihood that I will have to slit my own belly with a kitchen knife is pretty slim! Thinking about what that woman did just makes me feel like it's been a good day. And a good life for that matter.
Posted by: Maria at April 7, 2004 11:07 PMMaria,
Sorry. It wasn't that bad really. Honestly, if I had the epidural it wouldn't have been very painful at all, from what I've been told.
Both the hubby and I were 10 pounders, so it wasn't a huge surprise that my boy was big. The surprise came when I was told that, despite my big ass, I actually had a small pelvis.
Either way, when you are ready to have a baby, it will be so worth it. My little boy is the best thing that EVER happened to me.
Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at April 7, 2004 11:49 PMI believe that. I look forward to having children. My mother had my sister and I both at home without any drugs. She gave birth to my brother in a hospital, still without epidural. He was the only one of us who was really unhealthy. Go figure.
I hear the epidural itself is a total horror though! My friend at work told me stories that made me cringe about the size of the needle. Oh well. Females have been going through childbirth since the dawn of time. I'm sure I can get through it as well! (It'll probably be awhile anyway as long as all precautions continue to function properly. Hahaa...)
Posted by: Maria at April 8, 2004 12:00 AMI was afraid of the epidural. I was afraid of the giant needle going in my spine. Ick. That fear screwed me in the end though. I ended up needing the C-section and because I didn't have the epi, they had to give me a full spinal block.
Not a procedure I ever want to repeat. I was numb for hours after.
On the plus side, they put that needle in during a contraction so you don't feel it or see it.
Oh, in case you are on the Pill. The Pill gets neutralized by alcohol. That important little piece of information should be on the label.
Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at April 8, 2004 12:09 AMI didn't have any drugs Maria but if I had of been in pain I would have asked for it..I went to the hospital because everytime I urinated it was burning and I wanted to get checked out since it was so close to due date.when I went to the hospital they said, "Honey you're in labor"...I was like "no shit". I thought I had really really bad gas pains..haha...I hope that you have a good a time as I did!
Posted by: sandy at April 8, 2004 07:35 AMThanks for the words of encouragement guys! Rosemary you made me feel better about the epidural. If contractions are anything like the cramps that I have on a monthly basis, then the epidural will be a piece of cake! Damn ya'll are making me have maternal urges.
As for the pill, I don't take it (makes me crazy...er). But don't worry, we are vigilant in our precautions. Nothing is a hundred percent, but condoms are pretty close. They do say that regualar alcohol use may increase the liver functions, and theoretically could reduce the effectiveness of the pill. You're right, there should be more caution in this regard. Doctors don't even mention this when they dole out pills! Antibiotics can also reduce the effect of birth control. Another thing rarely mentioned when you are prescribed either one.
