Much as I admire Howard Stern and his renegade radio status, there have been many a time when he has grossed me out beyond belief. Mostly when he has female guests and starts saying "oh baby, yeah, will you show me your ass? Yeah, take your panties off..." Ew. It makes me feel like I'm listening to someone have phone sex. Nastyyy. But I have to admit there have also been many a time where he has made me laugh and I love how he glorified the shit out of himself in "Private Parts."
Now Howard has made headlines again with his conversation with Rick Solomon where they discussed Rick's sexual experiences and his high publicity relationships. The show transcript includes calls from randoms who contributed a great deal to the obscenity of the broadcast. Good times. The FCC is all over him like a fly on shit these days while Howard's position is more controversial than ever as he incorporates politics into the mix.
Posted by Maria at March 31, 2004 10:57 PMHe makes my stomach churn. I never could abide him. If I never hear "are those real" or "have you ever had sex with another woman" or "turn around and let me see your ass", it'll be waaaaaay too soon.
Posted by: Richard at April 1, 2004 12:10 AMHahahaaa! Exactly. You know what I'm talking about. He's a dirty old man. And not in a good way.
Posted by: Maria at April 1, 2004 10:05 AMSomone brought up a very good point about Howard Stern in relation to the "superbowl halftime show stint."
The halftime show, nobody expected to see what they did. With Howard Stern, you know what you are in store for, so if you don't like it, don't listen.
A lot of people bring up the argument that "we are all morally bankrupt." I asked, according to whom and compared to what? Compared to 50 years ago, we are much different, so that isn't a fair comparison. And compared to whom - if we compare ourselves to right wing christians, than yes, we have a difference about what is "morally correct." This is one of the things WE ALL must accept about living in a free and open soceity - we must accepot one another for our differences and not force what our little groups think is "morally correct" for everyone else.
Again, if you don't like Stern, don't fucking listen to him! But don't spoil it for the ones that do. (subsequently, I cant stand stern because he isn't funny - he killed it for me when his first book came out and he talked on it non stop for nearly a year). So guess what - I don't listen to him.
Posted by: Beezus at April 1, 2004 10:09 AMBeezus. I don't "fucking" listen to him for the aforementioned reasons. I accept him for his differences. I just loathe the way his differences manifest themselves.
He has the same effect on me as a horsefly at the beach. Annoying and easily ignored but little else. So I bring along my insect repellent and get on with my swim. Kind of a metaphor for many on the internet now that I think of it.
Posted by: Richard at April 1, 2004 02:13 PMThat is not a good comparison - stern doesnt go seeking folks out randomly like a horsefly. A horsefly is also only doing what nature intended it to do. Stern, by choice, is being offensive in his right. Peoiple by choice either listen or dont. It isn't being forced on anyone.
hell, as much asd I depsise Geoff/Gordon, I would fight tooth and nail for him if someone tried to take away his right to free speech - because you take it away for one, you take it away for all.
Posted by: Beezus at April 1, 2004 07:58 PMRead it over again. You've missed what I'm saying Beez.
I said he's no more bothersome (Stern) than the others that would attempt to hound me for personal satisfaction. I don't subscribe to taking anything from Stern.
(And yes, I agree with the seeking out thing about the "g" people). Whole different can of worms.
The horsefly reference was to Stern and some among my former compadres (excluding the more cowardly among them) on the internet.
