This is an email my dad sent to me on this subject of Nader running and I had to share it because it is SO my dad. Poetic and yet so realistic:
HELLO!!!!
Nader's followers suffer from the delusion that ideals must always trump action. Their unpragmatic approach simply means that they do not realize that we are very close to species annihilation and planetary doom.
The Nader people need to be dragged out of their Volvos and Saabs and beaten vigorously with the club of reality. We do not have the luxury of intellectual purity, or adhering to the side of the angels in all things, if as a result, we are relegated to angel status, pirouetting on a pinhead with all the other irrelevant angels.

Posted by: sandy at February 26, 2004 12:37 PMWe both have/had an Aunt Pearl and our dad's are both named Charles. That's pretty funny. I was just telling my boyfriend that I think you and I are going to have to meet one day because I'm starting to feel like you have become a close friend to me. It just wouldn't seem right if we never ever met.
Posted by: Maria at February 27, 2004 03:16 PMNow that is the Nicest thing anyone has said to me in forever..I feel the same way Ria..you're a very special gal.
Posted by: sandy at February 27, 2004 06:26 PMYou know what else is funny? You are the only person who has ever shortened my name to Ria. And I like it! I actually used to know a girl named Ria and I would joke with her that she was "the girl with half my name" LOL! Aw. I feel warm and fuzzy now. It could just be that bacardi I just drank. Hahaaa. But I think it's because we have formed a bond and it IS special. Thanks for standing by me Sandy. You've proven to be a true friend and a downright awesome person.
Posted by: Maria at February 27, 2004 07:40 PMHey..I'm drinking too...now let's give a hug and kiss and proclaim our "Love"..haha..I wished you were here..I guarantee my evening would not be boring..I could probably stay up all night just chatting with you and that would be enough.
Posted by: sandy at February 27, 2004 09:04 PMYep. It's a damn shame you're going away to Germany because I'd have to devise a way to stop in on you in Colorado sometime. My sister's best friend actually goes to college there. I'm sure she would take the road trip with me one day...Anyway, cheers Sandy! To actual real friends made on the internet. Pretty fucking cool. I'll drink to that. Salud!
Posted by: Maria at February 27, 2004 11:50 PMOkay you two. KNOCK IT OFF.
people will say you're in love.....
Oh and is "salud" some form of the Italian toast "salute" (sah lew TAY') meaning 'health'??
Sounds kinda Sopranos to me. ;-)
Posted by: Chosesinconnues at March 1, 2004 06:34 PMHa! Yes, it means the same thing, health, only in Spanish and pronounced "sah-lood."
Anyway I don't care if someone thinks we're in love. Jocks used to drive by my girlfriends and I when we were walking down the street in my home town and yell "Lesbos!!!" out the window, so I've been immunized against giving a fuck. I still walk down the street with my best friend arm and arm and holding hands and all that. People can think what they want. Hahaaa~ It's LOVE!
Posted by: Maria at March 1, 2004 07:27 PMMaria..
along these same lines, when Neil (the world's handsomest Gay male IMO) was in the 4th grade he brought in his Valentine's Day cards for the class like we all used to. Only thing is he had one for EVERYONE!!! Cute lil fucker he is... :)
But. Some pig pointed at him mid-distribution and said "whadaya a FAG or something" cuz he was handing to the boys he liked too!!!
When he tells that story lo these many years later I can see how he lost some of his innocence that day. Oddly (or not) it had never occurred to him that there was anything wrong with it. Interesting huh?
BTW.. thanks for the compliment at Sandy's site. I look like a dork and my shorty shorts are too SHORT :-)
