I found this piece that this guy Bob Avakian wrote back in 1997 that I thought was interesting about the phrase "Justifiable Homicide." I like what he has to say.
Also this bit of "Kopwatch" on Mediafilter.org exposes the watering down of statistics that politicians have done in this city with regard to police violence and brutality, the millions of dollars in tax payer money that it costs to settle lawsuits against the police department, and also mentions many incidents, including the one where police in Washington Heights shot that kid in the back last year. And their GloboCopwatch Directory provides archives of stories and even a place where you can email about your very own police brutality incidents and experiences.
Very interesting reading.
Posted by Maria at February 19, 2004 04:22 PM | TrackBackThanks for the links..very intersting..and may I just say THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH for not just writing about politics every damn day...your site is so refreshing to me and when you don't blog for a couple of days, cuz I know you're busy I go into withdrawls..haha...
oh and I got another book...
The Serial Killer Files by Harold Schechter..it's so hard to find a serial killer book I haven't read..this one is pretty good..
Sandy that is the nicest thing! I can't believe you have withdrawals. That gives me such a boost. Seriously. Your readership and comments make all the difference between continuing on and giving up. Thank you a million times.
Now that my Manson nightmares have subsided, I think it's safe for me to resume reading some crime chronicles myself. :o)

Posted by: sandy at February 20, 2004 02:37 PMMay I vent for one minute...I am sitting here crying and my hands were shaking..gawd I hate when I take a fucker too seriously on a blog..this idiot at Right Voices used Dr. Martin Luther Kings words to go against gays...Now I am not a religious woman but Dr. King was created by the heavens. He was the most beautiful man and when he was shot down that was the saddest time I know of. How dare someone take this mans words out of context to argue for hatred and bigotry.....I am so fucking insanely mad right now....
Posted by: sandy at February 20, 2004 03:07 PMOh No. What an ASSHOLE. You know, that's why I refrain from visiting too many sites that I know are going to send me into a rage anymore. Because I really can't handle the stress. I believe it's important to speak your peace and to sometimes become confrontational in order to make a point or a difference, but sometimes it is just not worth it to have to realize that there are so many really fucked up, ignorant pieces of shit out there. I have a motto "there's too many assholes in the world, and you can't punch them all out, so you just have to accept that they exist..." It's painful. Sandy, I completely understand. All you can do is take a deep breath and put things in perspective. This guy is nothing, nobody and his opinion really means nothing at all. He's just one more psychopath trying to find justification for his completely baseless hatred for others. He's trying to forget about how useless & insignificant his existence is on this earth by condemning others for something that, if he were a normal, well adjusted person, would not even be an issue to him. Meanwhile, he's too stupid to benefit from the wise teachings of tolerance and compassion preached by the venerable Martin Luther King. His loss.
Posted by: Maria at February 20, 2004 03:18 PMMaria...you are right..damn you are right...I just got off the phone w/Richard and he says "helo" by the way..he simmered me down....well that and 3 glasses of red wine :) I can't believe I fell for this guy..hook, line and sinker..he totally got to me. I reread Dr. Kings, "I Have a Dream Speech" and it brought me solace...there are good people out there...there are! Thanks Ria...you are a Peach...
